Who was Nikos Stamatis and what about his museum!

Nikos Stamatis was born on March 30, 1941, in the village of Sysklipos. In the 1960s, he briefly lived in London, and upon his return to Cyprus, he established his own souvenir and antique shop on Ledra Street in Nicosia. In the early 1970s, he married Yiannoula and settled in Mammari. In 1974, he fought during the Turkish invasion. His first shop was located on the Green Line of Ledra Street, so after the war, he had to start over from scratch.

In the mid-1970s, Nikos Stamatis became involved with the E.N. Rotsidis Mammari Association, where he served as president for 18 years. During these years, the association's own building and the Rotsidis Mammari stadium were constructed. The Rotsidis football team excelled in the fourth, third, and second divisions during this time, achieving several distinctions.

His new professional venture with old items was created in Laiki Geitonia in Nicosia in the late 1970s. He remained in the same neighborhood for about 25 years, and in the early 21st century, he began to establish his own museum in Mammari. At the same time, he organized a group of artisans specializing in old professions and folk art, with whom he participated in festivals such as those in Ayia Napa, Kataklysmos, and others, throughout Cyprus for 30 years. The museum was a lifelong dream that was never completed as the collection of objects was always continuous and uninterrupted. His aim was to present objects of folk art and history, tools, machinery, and other items extracted from time.

The Nikos Stamatis Museum was inaugurated in 2015. Nikos Stamatis passed away in 2019, and his four sons took over the management of the museum. Their goal is to maintain the museum and upgrade it into a space for presenting significant exhibits. Simultaneously, with the aim of utilization, the Nikos Stamatis Museum offers items for sale.

Objects from the past century, tools, antiques, machinery, furniture, signs, bottles, are gathered in seven halls and a large outdoor area.

The museum's exhibits are scattered among the objects, prompting visitors to choose and distinguish those they like.

Visit the museum and ask us what you can purchase.
